From the Where2sing.com forum:

LB, David, just to give a Victorian perspective on this as I have attended many different formats of shows, the usual rotation system for those running computer shows is the first rotation ends when they run out of new singers, therefore the second rotation starts with the first singer of the night (should they be in attendance still). Also, I have seen some shows where the host singing a song marks the next rotation start. The one thing that isn't unique though to any particular venue is that the second rotation is usually nowhere near as big as the first, hence, getting three (or more if the show goes over 4 hrs) songs in is never usually difficult. I did mention below, when at the final show at The Bended Elbow in Geelong Thursday week ago, the first rotation lasted 3 hrs! As this show went for 3.5 hrs, it was only those that were there for the whole night that got to sing a second time, which in my book is totally fair. But I must stress, I have only seen that situation the one time. Then there is low volume venues such as Steve & Elisabeth's show on a Sunday night at The Monash Hotel. They get somewhere between 10-15 regulars out of a maximum crowd of about 30 people and the occasional one off singer. In this situation, a new singer is usually placed in virtually instantly to break up the monotony. Not once have I seen anyone complain to Steve for doing this. It's a case of each host assessing the situation in order to give the best possible outcome. (Once again, I stress that I am only a singer myself.) Final example is what used to happen at The Whalers in Warrnambool before this show too was cancelled a few months back. I and about 2 others would get there right on start time and would be on constant rotation for the first hour until the patrons got enough dutch courage into themselves to put down a few songs as well. Some nights I would get in 3 songs before the first hour had finished - and this even included the hosts doing a couple as well! By the time the last hour came around though, you would only expect to be doing one song for the hour. This, I imagine, would be a similar situation to what LB is describing in the first line of his post just below.
