LB, thanks for your detailed description, as I thought you'd not be able to run it as per your original (short) post. And I now understand the reason for 'rounds' is to limit the time between songs for previous singers.

I guess that newcomers will not know that some who are singing ahead of them have already had one or more songs, but it strikes me as a very difficult way to run it, and that towards the end of the night it would become a nightmare in an increasingly busy venue.

I like GregW's explanation of 'rounds' as being multiple queues that merge. I don't wonder, however, that singers are always asking when they'll be up next, because how would they have any hope of knowing how many queues there are, how many singers in each, which queue they're in and when their turn will come. It still seems to be a mighty complicated way to do things, especially as no matter how many queues people are separated into, only one person can sing at one time.

It is fair to say that all goes well until one singer notices that someone else has sung twice since he last sang?
