From the Where2sing.com forum:

David, having just had to do research into the AMCOS-APRA licences, Pubs and Clubs actually have to have a separate licence to run karaoke. Surprised the hell out of me to know that! For example a venue that wants to hold karaoke weekly would need to pay a yearly licence of $855.40 (ie $16.45 x 52 weeks). This is separate to the licence they need for each TV & a Jukebox. Then if you throw in a nightclub area, you then get another licence. Any wonder the poor buggers can't make any money!! Oh, and while were on the subject of licences, the AMCOS-APRA Casual Blanket Licence for copying and format shifting karaoke songs is 17.5c per track for the first 2000 tracks, 14.5c per track thereafter for 2001-5000 tracks then 11.5c per track thereafter above 5000. (works out to $1360 per 10000 tracks) Or a minimum licence (500 tracks) is $96.25 per 6 months or year, depending on your choice. And if you require a backup copy of all your format shifted songs, simply double your fee. Do a search for 'Casual Blanket Licence' to find the application form PDF. So for all you disc operators looking to format shift, there's the first big cost to think about before anything else.
