From the Where2sing.com forum:

David, Vic etc... The 'Casual Blanket Licence' allows you to both copy and format shift. But you cannot exceed your stated amount of songs covered by said licence regardless if they are format shifted or copies of those format shifted songs. Yes, in Pubs etc. karaoke is a separately licenced item. The following is a list of all the AMCOS-APRA Licences required for a typical Pub, Club or Tavern:

Background Music
Covers the use of:
Background Music System, including CD, tape player, radio, background music service and/or each zone/channel of a multi-channel device;
Radio and/or TV sets used to show video/DVD, free to air and/or subscription TV;
Audio Juke Box;
Large Screen and/or Video Juke Box
(This requires the Venue manager to state how many of each item the Pub, Club or Tavern has.)

Music on Hold
Covers the use of radio, tape, CD or pre-recorded messages and music via a telecommunication system to callers on hold. Annual fees vary according to the number of external telephone lines.

Live Performances
Covers performances at the premises by live-artist performers. Annual fees are calculated on 2.2% of gross expenditure on live-artist performers plus 1.65% of gross admission receipts where “door deals” occur.
(Any wonder pubs hate putting on live music now!!)

Featured Recorded Music
Covers performances at the premises by means of featured recorded music selected or pre-programmed by DJs or a pre-programmed music service.

Recorded Music for Dance Use in Nightclubs
Covers music used for dance use in nightclubs.
(Charged on a maximum venue capacity x number of nights open basis)

Karaoke
Covers karaoke performances.
(As stated in last post)

As you can see, the red tape just to get music into a Pub or Club is mind boggling!!
The list above was taken from the AMCOS-APRA site.
