CRAPPY SONG SELECTIONS Part 2:
My opinions of what constitute “crappy song selections” in the context of a karaoke competition (I have more on my list, but some of it will border on being sexist / racist !! Hahaha!!):

- Self-indulgent songs (songs which are from the singers’ favourite obscure band / singer, which they know too well themselves, which are neither catchy nor melodic, with no audience appeal whatsoever).

- Monotonous songs (songs that go on and on, repetitious melody lines at the one level, with no low or high passages, like a flat-line on a heart monitor).

- Well known songs, songs that have been done and is being done by thousands of karaoke performers everywhere in the world every night of the week: One can literally see the judges’ (and most of the audience’s) eyes roll-back with a collective disappointing sigh, all saying in unison “not this bloody song again!!”. Not unless the singer is exceptional and can bring a stirring new interpretation to an old / popular standard and make that song his / her own!

- Singers with feeble voices selecting songs with extremely loud backing tracks …

- Songs with a long intro or a long mid-song instrumental break and the singers have not prepared anything for such time-slots but just stand there, merely waiting for something to happen next.

- Songs with passages that are completely out of the singers’ voice-range.

- Songs which do not suit the physical / visual persona of the singer, unless that singer is an exceptional singer like a Paul Potts or “SuBo” (remembering that karaoke competition is an audio/visual competition …)
