From the Where2sing.com forum:

How did I get the karaoke 'bug'. Well it all started with me when my husband, Mick, started comparing shows. I think it might have been in the year 2001 when I first started singing, but I can't remember exactly when. Mick started comparing in late 1999 working at the time for Goodtime Karaoke at Penrith RSL. I always went along with him to where he was working. Up until I got up to sing at the Auburn Hotel one night, I had not sung, I used to go along with him and watch him sing, but never had the nerve to get up there myself. I started singing at the Auburn Hotel because there was no 'stage' as such, I sang a duo with Mick called 'Beautiful Sunday' (which we still sing occasionally today) and also sang 'Men' with a friend Joan. After that, I started singing on my own. I go to 3 or 4 gigs a week, which is enough for me. Some people like to go to more, some go to less. As most people know on this forum, Mick is a host for Karaoke Kapers so I mainly go to his shows, and occasionally we go to the one at Eastern Creek on a Thursday night (I like the show there but unfortunately it is the only night I can catch up with other friends who do not go to karaoke, so something has to give sometimes) and maybe twice a month go to the show at St. Patrick's Tavern in Mt. Druitt on a Saturday night. I like Joan's show and she has a fantastic song selection, one of the biggest that I have seen.

I have met a lot of people through karaoke, and most of them I now call my friends. Mick and I have had several parties here at our home and for the most part, a lot of people from karaoke have come along to them and (hopefully) they have had a good time.

There are a lot of karaoke shows now to choose from, so a person should never be stuck for somewhere to sing. This is where I have found this website very helpful.

So that is my story. Like 'Mic rophone' I am interested to know how others got their start in karaoke. I am also interested to know if the shows that others go to are fun and have they made new friends?
