Agree with your comments..... it is an interesting discussion.... which promoters/producers are ultimately more 'successful'? The promoters/producers that pump out music/artists that the public want to hear based on current tastes (and ride the easy short term money/gravy train), or is it those target and market the hell out of an artist that is well suited to emerging/underground sounds - the emergence of disco into the mainstream in the mid 70's with Chic etc, rap into the mainstream in the early 80s with Grandmaster Melle Mel and co, and I guess also, the grunge sound in the early 90s with Nirvana launched eras and music that ultimately defined (and arguably continues to define) the sound of a generation. It took some brave producers to promote and market those guys early on..... Just a thought a guess.... I am hoping that the Xfactor guys are bold enough to look beyond artists that can sing/sell 'now' music, and also have enough insight into what styles are emerging and might sell in the next couple of years.....heaven knows, with some exceptions, am not a big fan of the overproduced studio band stuff I hear on the radio at the moment - sooner that changes the better. When all is said and done though, a great voice and a great performer will always be in demand to flog whatever sound is going at the time, and I guess that whats keeps food on Kyle's table...
