From the Where2sing.com forum:

Wow.... some interesting views.... From what I have seen of the XFactor so far, some karaoke experience would have gone a long way to improving some of the stage presence/'working the crowd' abilities and confidence of some of the performers. I wonder how many of the current finalists and 'boot camp' acts have actually given karaoke a go? Of those that have, it would interesting to ask them to what extent (if at all), their karaoke experiences have helped prepare them for this competition? What does everyone else think? I think karaoke is a wonderful, valuable experience for any performer - while it does not build up the necessary stamina to put on a 20-30 song gig along with all of the associated baggage that comes with constant touring etc, it at least allows you to practice on what you can which might be for example working the crowd and exercising your voice/focussing on your pitch etc.... I think we all agree that for many, luck plays a big part in getting that 'big break' (if that's what you want from karaoke?). I think giving karaoke your all and continually working on your performances (and seeking feedback from the venue's regulars/KJ?) from week to week, even if it is just for a handful of songs each time, allows you to be as prepared as you are able to be if/when you are lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time? Anyway, back to XFactor.... bye for now.
