| From the Where2sing.com forum: Hey China, I think it is always a big hurdle for a karaoke performer to get that sort of response as they first have to get over the audience's inevitable initial 'instant comparison against the original' hurdle. (Often of course also, the audience is judging the singer before they even start if they are about to have a go at a 'big voice' artist like Houston, Carey, Aguilera, Beyonce etc!) I have observed that once the audience realises that the perfomer is making the song their own and not simply trying to imitate, that comparison focus often disappears and they then start really enjoying the performance on its own merits, and I think that is where that magic can happen. Just an observation I guess, but I agree 100% - it is goose bump stuff.... I saw a young lady at the Kingsford perform 'Chains' once and it left me and the rest of the punters speechless....
