Being a site for both Subscribers and Non-Subscribers, I believe certain privileges must be set and maintained to at all times, if not, why subscribe.
Presently, I believe that everyone has a right to “chat” in the general and state forums. If blatant advertising is allowed en masses in these forums, from a host’s perspective, why bother subscribing?
For the type of info-dissemination Peter M is referring to – it can be done by flyers and announcements at your own gigs of upcoming events for the regulars, and via Singers’ Comments under your gig’s listing for the punters who know where to look. It is unlikely that a newie-singer coming online for the first time will trawl through the forums for such info.
Under the present set-up, perhaps a new chat-forum would be welcome by all as a stop-gap measure : “Gigs’ Flashes” (much like the “In The News” forum is for general karaoke news, this new forum is for gig announcements of upcoming special events – start of a new comp, theme nights, etc.) and only subscribing hosts / venues can post here but viewing access is unrestricted.
