Cmon guys. Most of the people discussing topics on this website are supposedly hosts or those that traverse karaoke bars most weeks. How can any of you think that any of the people in X Factor have a level of talent that will propel them to superstardom all over the world which is supposedly the desire according to the mentors. This show is all about making money from the voting public. It is not about making a long term singer or artist in the industry. Look at Australian Idol. It went for 10 years and produced perhaps 2 'of note' artists. The others had their 15 minutes of fame and nothing more. With a bit of research you realise that these shows make money from votes (upwards of $10 million a series). The judges or mentors get paid to promote the show not promote the artist so their 'methods' are about ensuring that people vote more. This helps the judges because the more people vote means the better ratings and means a next series will be done which means another contract and bigger contract for judges. When picking contestants they also need to cover all types of demographics for the vote. Look at the contestants this season of X Factor and any season of Idol. They are all different as they are trying to get votes. There were a number of better singers and performers but they were too alike which lessens the demographic voting public.

The reality is that after the show ends these artists will be left to their own devices largely and the fickle public will move on to the next 'target the shows produce'. The 'artists' very rarely have the talent or motivation or balls to make it from there.

As for the actual contestants:

Altiyan: cmon ... yes his weirdness makes for interesting viewing and for the 2 rock performances he was awesome (very watchable performance-wise). But so he should be after singing those songs for 15-20 years in cover bands!! Would he make it as a rock artist? I doubt it. Vocally, he has not been that great from a technical point of view. I did not think Summer of 69 was that great. Why would a person buy an album from him when his competitors would be Bon Jovi who are still going. I don't see him being an artist that could sell records past the end of this show. He was brought in to cover the weird people vote and rock genre.

Andrew: crooner
He has a good crooner voice that maybe in 5 years time could be marketable but he just doesnt have the chops or performance at the moment.

Sally
Whatever you say, she is still a big girl and will fade in the music industry. Anyone who says otherwise is an idealist and not living in the real world. Doesn't matter that she seems a lovely person (although is she off-screen - apparent cat-fight with India) or has a nice smile. She will be the next Casey Donovan. The public is fickle and nothing will change that. No doubting she has a great voice but will not make it in the music industry in Australia let alone the world.

Hayley
Catering for the lesbian and gay market and was also good looking however did not have any 'wow' about her performance. Great voice yes, but it seemed like she could never command attention when she was on stage. She was missing the x!

Mahogany
Think they could be excellent, but over last couple of weeks i think the flaws of their supposed best singer have been shown. I have found her to sing off key and not be great and it has let down the performance. Although I thought originally they could be huge i dont think they can be after seeing them for the last few weeks.

Luke and Joel
Not worthy of making it in a show like this. They are like the auditionees that get laughed at in the bad auditions but who think they are great because their parents and friends think they are. You see it in their faces. They think they can sing. They are a joke to singers everywhere. They are basically only ok performers as well because they are just stupid without a care in the world. But we are supposedly looking for singers not comedians. I find it a joke that anyone thinks anything worthy of them. Each week they have been told they are poor vocally and yet they remain. Again I dont think they should have got past 1st audition. So why did they? Because they are 2 young boys from Australia (instead of islanders like 90% of the other groups), they apparently are decent looking to teenage girls (the majority of the voting public) and they are brothers which adds to that appeal. However they would not be able to make a decent sound on a recording. It would all be auto-tune. Milli Vanilli revisited basically.

As far as I am concerned, I have seen 10 times better singers and performers in pubs and clubs, and at talent quests and karaoke competitions than those chosen. But until producers and the public in general realise how great it would be to have a competition that actually has awesome unreal amazing singers and performers who may be similar but are so damn good you don't care and you really vote because you can see that these acts are so great, then we will continue to see mediocre performers and poor singers on supposed reality talent shows like this one.

I am sure you all have seen much better singers and performers as well. Why are you wasting your money on votes for these? Why doesnt the karaoke community come together and make an artist from within its ranks?
