| From the Where2sing.com forum: David your last paragraph certainly is the one to focus on, do each of us, as proprietors of our Entertainment Services sit in our offices taking bookings all day long ......nahhh...... it would be natural to think we all trudge the streets knocking on doors!
So what's your 'spiel' when they open the door? What do you have to offer? Why are you different from the rest? And most importantly what do you know about the Venue you are 'spruikin'' to?
Too many times @ too many Venues the operator's ego takes over...I've heard it from Venue Managers regarding the claims and promises made by over enthusiastic operators! Believe me they've heard 'em all!
My first gig was my best ..The Boss at that one said to me ...'Have ya got a following of Singers?' ...my reply 'No' thinking I'd just shot meself in the foot...he replied 'Good ..I want you to keep this local crowds bums on my seats till 10pm..OK!' and that's exactly what transpired Local Karaoke @ The Local for the Locals initially that did eventually attract the Karaoke singing community..
Karaoke shows terminate because there are no Local Bums on seats ..if you have an entourage , great, but remember Locals sometimes resent strangers taking over their night out so tread carefully!
This is the last & most important lesson I'm willing to share here ...If you walk into an EMPTY PUB there is a reason for it..... and it began a long time before you walked in..... If You Are To Target A Venue As A Potential Customer Of Yours On A Particular Night...Then Make Sure You Have Been A Customer Of There's On The Same Night Before Your Approach!
Don't allow another Venue to use Karaoke as their excuse!
