David, Billy T, MB, thank you all for your great advice. Just to clarify a few things in MB's post, no, there is no bottle-o. This venue is not a pub as such, but a sports club/gaming venue that has evolved from a combined effort between 2 different local Geelong Football Leagues. Now, as they already have Friday and Saturday etertainment, I can't see myself being able to move to another night later in the week. Wednesday's are out as it would clash with JSB's Geelong show. Monday and Tuesday honestly, would be pointless in Geelong, as well as the fact that they do not intend offering me those nights. Thursday was their and my only option in this case. Now as for working the crowd, yes, that is something I did have a small chance of doing last week as the venue was well patronised just as I started the show due to the popularity of their bistro and bar meals. This did result in getting a couple of the 'Buckley's Faithful' up singing before any of my regular crew (in this case only JSB) were even in the premises. Having got some feedback from these people I am hoping I have left a good impression with them and hopefully some if not all of them will be back on Thursday to try again and also hope they spread the word. Another thing going in my favour is that I will be the first karaoke show of the week not the second this week. Essentially this means those regulars that are hanging out for their 'oke' fix will have me as first choice. Now I know I should never depend on things like this, but I am sure it will help my cause when compared to last week. I also know that this venue has never had karaoke in the past, but I have been privy to some information that they have had someone else canvass them in the past but he seems to lose interest in doing a show whenever he was asked. What can I say, his loss my gain! Although I am possibly looking at this week being the last week there, I may try talking to the venue manager and asking if he'd give me a chance to try and build it a little over another 4 weeks. This should therefore encompass a Christmas show which, if all is normal in the world, should make for a reasonably well patronised night. Personally no better way to get some word of mouth happening! Once again will keep you all posted on how this week goes! :)
