From the Where2sing.com forum:

Karaokebug... it seems like you had a smart audience. The reason you get pid for your gig is to facilitate the paying customers having a good time - singers and non-singers alike. If you want to sing and don't like hosting, give it away and go be a paying singer. If you like hosting and need the money, remember who is paying. This is not to say you shouldn't sing, but your decision about whether to sing, and how often, should be based on factors which are calculated to improve the night (read: improve your business), and not just done on the spur of the moment.

But then I think you already know this answer, because you list your reasons for singing as:
a) a host has the right to sing (huh? he's the host, not a paying customer)
b) the chance to check levels (can the host not do this whilst someone they know is singing?)
c) gives me a break from standing behind the console (boredom is your problem - go and chat to people in your audience if you're bored)
d) a host may tend to lose the love for the buisness (check your pay at the end of the night for your motivation)
e) singing a song is like a breath of fresh air (obviously not to you present audience...lol)
f) it keeps me going (so you don't enjoy hosting?)
g) i look forward to singing just like everyone else (but they pay for it by being the customers)

The comments in brackets are mine, by the way...
