From the Where2sing.com forum:

Ok, I've sat back and watched the kiddies go at it for too long now, I just have to contribute. LB, I believe I am the go between with regards to the to demographics you talk about at 39. I have seen 'sh1ts & giggles' crowd that can range up to my age and I have also seen serious karaoke goers who range right down to early 20's. So my personal opinion of my 20+ yrs of attending various venues is that there is no two separate age diferences between the two. Although should an s&g crowd in their early 30's mingle with a serious crowd in their late 20's-early 30's, you'll find that common sense will usually win out. With regards to what Billy-T said in his original post about venues trying to change the behaviour of crowds nation wide, yes I am inclined to agree, I have a unique position on this whole arguement as I am 1. A Singer, 2. A Host & 3. A Barman in a licenced venue. We, on many occasions at the venue I work at, try to enforce a zero tolerance approach to rude and childish behaviour as we see it as being the catalyst usually for worse behaviour before the night is finished. This must be working as we very rarely get any trouble although we can fill a room with 100+ patrons every Friday & Saturday night. (Yes, it isn't a big bar room.) This is going to be put to the test a little more on Saturday when I finally get to host my first show in the pub I also pull beers at. I will admit to being excited to be able to do this as well as some fear as I also know who the idiot element is and just hope our alotted security contingent will do their job efficiently. My bottom line in this is: Billy-T & David, I see your point and agree. LB, you may want to change how you interpret this particular situation. David, from what I read in the story, only showed disapproval at some very anti-social behaviour that didn't quite fit the feel of the night in general. Had this venue had decent security, they would have and should have done something about this and got these idiots to tone down their stupidity. A fine example of such a situation handled well actually happened to me this weekend. I had a typical s&g idiot come up to me to order his drinks, which in his words but censorred were 2 f-ing sambucca shots and a beer. I politely told him if he ordered his drinks like that again he would be escorted out. Well this same idiot once he had well and truely had his fill of his 'f-ing sambucca shots and beer' then proceeded to try and headbutt his way through a plate glass door!! But thanks to our zero tolerance security, he was dragged away and told to never come back. He is now facing about a 5yr ban from our venue. This is what happens in a country venue that respects a patron's comfort, not what David had to put up with at this other country venue. And from what I can tell, it is all David was trying to put forward. I don't see that as elitist in any way, just trying to keep the peace amongst many different styles of patron.
