The only reason I think a host should finish with a song is to leave the crowd with that 'wow, that was an awesome night' feeling. If I think a singer in the rotation can do that and I'm not reading the room that well, I'll give up 'my slot' to them. It's odd though how often the regulars will get upset if the host doesn't finish the night, like it's somehow incomplete or something...
