Barry: The issue with generating that kind of report would be the default settings on the player that generates the log file. While it's been a long time since I dug around there, I think the log file is set to be a maximum of 50kb (text) which is a lot of text, but ultimately would never hold 3 months worth and would never give you any kind 'sort and manage' capability. What you'd really need is for the log file to be saved as a csv file with song name and artist name in separate columns so that you could tabulate the figures.

So in short, it is possible but it would be a terrifyingly manual process.

In my experience, the breadth of songs that get sung at any given karaoke gig is based on the number of songs on the list coupled with the bravery level of the singer. Most 'casual' singers (people that don't think of themselves as karaoke singers and would only get up and do one song after a few drinks) would typically sing from a set list of about 200 songs. The songs we know as 'typical karaoke songs'. The more brave a singer is (willing to try something new and not stick to their same 3 songs each week), the more likely it is that a songlist would be put through its paces.

A venue like Covent Garden in Sydney which has a high degree of casual passer-by traffic got away with its extremely lean list for a very long time for this very reason. Chatty RSL wouldn't have that same casual singer quantity, I imagine most of their patrons are 'experienced' karaoke singers, but I wonder how many of them venture outside their usual setlist.

We have a list of 32400 songs (vast majority of duplicates removed) and often get comments that our list contains songs that they haven't seen elsewhere but when the song slip comes in, due to the high degree of casual singers we often get, it's inevitably Living On A Prayer or Love Shack... lol
