| From the Where2sing.com forum: Barrytone, that's an interesting stance, but again what will you do when you just simply don't get any reply back from them one way or the other? My impression is exactly the same as yours - a bureaucratic organisation that collects whatever fees are willingly sent its way ($120 million plus per year) and takes its cut (a staggering $20 million plus per year for what is essentially a collection agency that should be replaced with a website automatic system at the cost of less than a million a year) but doesn't have the balls or expertise to do anything more.
There's also the question, since it's not the only way that fees can be paid and therefore APRA doesn't have a legal right to prosecute on behalf of those it purports to represent, nor does the effort of chasing pirates for just 20% of the take seem to make commercial sense, then why do we actually expect APRA to do more than just be a collection agency?
APRA and MIPI's occasional hard talk is really just sword rattling, so perhaps we're the ones who are wrong in mistaking this for an ability and a desire to act against pirates. The only question then is, what's in it for those who do decide to send their money to APRA if we can see that there's no negative consequence? Or is there...
