With this whole varied topic of hosts singing, background music, music breaks, etc. there are no hard and fast rules. If whatever you do works - keep it, if it doesn't work - change it.
This forum has a constant bombardment of complaints by mainly singers, however, at our shows, and most others I have been to, singers are not the only audience, in fact karaoke 'junkies' only make up a small proportion of the crowd. Still they feel that the show is all about them. It is not. It is about trying to find the right balance to keep the majority of your audience entertained.
Thus I agree entirely with Vic'c comment - we WILL do whatever WE feel is in the best interest of our show as a whole.
