| From the Where2sing.com forum: David, Hi we just added a new gig to your listings, Wednesdays at the Xchange Hotel in Napier St, Footscray, Vic and as mentioned a month or so ago, the gig is another hybrid of karaoke.
The gig combines Musicians jam with karaoke with open mike. The idea being to connect vocalists to musicians to song writers etc, to use a mid week gig to provide opportunities for 'muso's' to network, gain experience and exposure.
In our experience of attending 'Jam NIghts', vocalists are often at a disadvantage unless they've previously arranged to team up with musicians to play songs they know. Likewise musicians can often jam together but lack easy access to vocalists who know the songs (lyrics really) they can play. In a sense most karaoke tracks are just 'coverband' backing tracks with graphics added. We are attempting to demystify the 'stigma's' attached to karaoke in the 'muso's' world and provide opportunities for good quality vocalists to broaden their experience.
A number of 'muso's - pro's' attend our gigs and join in with some basic percussion instruments we keep on hand - this gig will just extend these opportunities.
At the Wednesday gig we'll not only provide all the karaoke gear we'll also have a drum kit, a couple of guitar amps and misc. percussion instruments for general usage. We'll not only be marketing to the karaoke & local muso community but also to Vic University, Art Schools and high school music departments etc. We hope to also provide opportunities for techies to strut their stuff.
