If you are on this website, you are obviously very keen and interested, and I would suggest therefore ready to rock.
Its one of those things - you just have to take that leap of faith - I had heaps of false starts where I just could not get the guts up to put my name down, and can clearly remember being simply awestruck of each singer that actually had the nerve to get up and perform.... it just seemed that everytime I was almost prepared to take that next step, some awesomely confident and talented singer would sing and my confidence would be shot again (happened to me one night at the Louisiana Tavern, SA when Michael Bates (KWC World Champion who I had read about in a Reader's Digest article) got up and sang for us...).
It was reassuring to see that every singer at my local (the Kingsford in SA) always got applauded for their efforts - knowing that helped me a lot to take that next step. Don't put too much pressure on yourself mate with your first performance, and feel that you have to be note/pitch & lyric perfect - just enjoy the experience.... it is quite strange hearing yourself for the first time through a great sound system and seeing people all watching you.... I can remember I was absolutely shaking like a leaf all through my first song.
That first applause you will receive, you'll never forget (likewise the first song you sang (for me it was MB20's 'Bent')) ... it is addictive and builds your confidence out of sight. Just also remember that for every singer who actually eventually gets the guts up to have a go, there are probably half a dozen in the crowd that will never have the guts to give it a go.
Just do it mate. You won't regret it.
