From the Where2sing.com forum:

We have struggled with our books for quite some time, we have about 99% of the duplicates removed from our book and we're still heaving around 240 page books (2 columns per page, 70 odd entries per column). We started out with cardboard folders with ring binders but they got trashed (people thought it necessary to pull apart the metal rings that the pages loop over), we went to books with a glued spine but they didn't last long either, can't update those books anyway. We now have books bolted down to a piece of wood via a U bolt held in place by screws underneath. You still get people trying to unscrew the thing or don't understand why they can't carry the whole piece of wood (measuring about 0.9m x 0.6m) back to their table. These have by far lasted the longest as they are permanently stationed near the host but you still get people not seeing why they can't use the actual pages as coasters etc...

We've experimented with touchscreen technology for browsing and submitting songs but we've decided that it's not for us. The interfaces that I've seen (from kjams and Tricerasoft's product) are quite limited in what they can do and there's too much that can go wrong when patrons are left to their own devices. Lord knows what happens when John Patterson submits his song under John and John Sutherland submits his song under John, neither person talks to the host and both songs end up under the one entry in the system (to name but one issue I found frustrating).

We will be rolling out mobile technology early this year but it will be custom designed as there's way too many ideas I have with what a patron should be able to do with a host's list...
