| From the Where2sing.com forum: I went to Darwin once, but I don;t think anyone was in.
In the days before Internet and before the BBC owned Lonely Planet, and at a time when that book was a bible, I ventured out on my first night to the named Darwin hot spot, a little concerned that Darwin's entire population seemed to consist of one person defecating in the middle of the mall. Whilst entering the set of double doors I was almost bowled over by a bloke coming out, and once inside I ordered a beer and, finding myself the only patron, wandering around the circular room viewing the photographs of hurricane disaster on the walls. Then I sat precisely in the centre of the room, finished my beer, and decided to ask the next living soul where really was the local nightlife. On leaving through the set of double doors I was almost bowled over by the same bloke coming back in, so I asked him 'where's the busiest place in town tonight?' 'You're in it', he said.
The next day I walked all along the beach to what was some kind of yacht club, a great place for a cool drink at the end of an afternoon. Sadly no one was in.
The next day I left.
