From the Where2sing.com forum:

Rovics, I felt I was arguing from a flawed perspective by claiming a previous problem at a gig when hearing what I later believe was just one side of stereo through both speakers - and I certainly wouldn't agree with LB that this situation is unnoticeable on most songs. At the gig I attended, it was extremely hard to tell what exactly was wrong, but so many singers struggled to find the key, and a couple changed mid-song thinking they were a fifth out, that it was a bit like everyone was too drunk to sing properly. Even the host gave up a song halfway saying 'I sound like sh*t tonight, can normally do that (song) well' - suggesting to me that even he couldn't pinpoint the exact problem.

So, given that the suggestion is that most singers on most songs would not be able to tell if they were hearing proper mono, or just one side of stereo, would someone with 'sound' training agree that the statement:
'By and large though, the majority of songs have the orchestration panned equally across both channels'
is pretty much correct?
