1) Suggest songs by particular artists, usually because they know that is what the crowd is looking for and I am known to sing anything and I'm rarely unexciting. I don't mind this because it means I don't have to think of what to sing ;)
2) Steer me away from particular artists or songs and the reason given is that no-body knows those songs and they wanted songs that the audience knew and could sing along with. This happened once and I didn't mind because it was a request and I don't particularly like the song in question anyway (it was Black by Pearl Jam if anyone cares).
3) One operator who strongly discourages me from singing anything. This operator is on my shit list and haven't been for several years. I suspect its politics to do with another venue that started up nearby that I preferred and recommended. Heaps of other places around on the night in question so no skin off my back.
Basically, I work on the basics of 'one you/audience likes' followed by 'one I want to sing and it isn't gonna be brilliant but I like the song so sod off'
