What I think might be interesting is if there was an operator who specialised in comp gigs or KWC events. That operator could then go specifically to venues that would be compatible with the 'your demographic is people who want to listen to good singers who would invariably stick to ballads' model. It would be sold and marketed on that model and therefore you can be a little more elitist with your publicity in a way that a general public karaoke show can't because they need to encourage as many of the people in the room to get up as they can. People wouldn't go to these gigs primarily to sing, they would go to listen to good singing. Maybe you could mix it up (and create a point of difference) by having all of the songs sung be suggestions from the audience. That would separate the men from the boys!

I think that model would be a lot more successful than the way comps and KWC venues are currently run.
