From the Where2sing.com forum:

There are several ways in which to run a successful rotation and there are other ways in which to put off potential and also local singers and their friends.
The most important thing to remember as a Host is that for every song you sing, it’s a song that the singers misses out on.
I have been to shows that you have two hosts that sing each round and also sing along with their friends during the night.
This may mean that the 2 Hosts sing a total of over 10 songs a night taking away over 40 minutes of singing time from the singers.......not wise.
Also the Hosts that favour their friends giving them more songs than anyone else ......also is not wise.
Rovics has developed a way in which there appears that it’s working but if he was to sing every round and favour only his friends I’m sure it would go downhill fast.
As for slotting in people....yes I do that but explain to everyone what is happening and the majority accept it.
However I don’t try and give the late comers equal amount of songs or the same as those people that have been waiting and drinking there all night. After all they are the ones that are keeping the Venue happy and Karaoke alive.
If busy a sign will go out along with regular comments “that the list will close soon”.......again this has worked for me.
If a person comes in an hour or half an hour before closing time they would be told that if someone has left that they might get a spot but don’t hold your breath...again this works well for me.
In summary the Host has to be seen to be fair and the singers will remain loyal.
