| From the Where2sing.com forum: Kev: Yeah, I used to have list of 'rules' at the front of the book, nobody read them. It's all well and good to make announcements about getting your song in early but if they don't want to sing at that time, they won't put a song down. For a lot of people, the desire to sing when they hadn't come to the venue with the express desire to sing is an organic process and can't be rushed. They realise they want to sing because they see everyone else getting up and enjoying the process and they reach a tipping point where the desire to take part in that enjoyment is stronger than their fear of failure/ridicule/judgement. Alcohol of course plays a part in that tipping point being reached. If they wait til the very end of the night then there's not much you can do, but if you're closing your books more than an hour before the end of the night then you may never get that person to that point again.
The more people who have experienced rush of confirming that there is a bigger payoff than any kind of negative, the more likely that person is going to seek out karaoke again in the future. More people that want to go to karaoke, the more people in the room for all of us.
