From the Where2sing.com forum:

All this talk about listening to the customers, made me think back to when I did a survey years ago (through a questionnaire) of singers at my Karaoke Show.

Most Hosts wouldn’t be bothered, but I wanted to find out if the Karaoke Show I produced was ok or if I could improve on it and how I could attract more customers every week.
The best way was not to ask people directly because generally you ask them in a way in which you want them to answer, like “do you like my show” “are you having fun”.
The only way was to have a survey.

Now before people start saying “a survey can be written in such a way as to pre determine a response” well mine wasn’t and I didn’t want that type of survey anyway because it would have been a total waste of time.

My questionnaire had eleven questions with multi responses like ......
Is the Music..A too loud
B too soft or
C Ok...
There was also room at the end of each question for people to write additional responses.
At the end of the questionnaire there was a bigger box for “General Comments To Improve Karaoke”
I had just under 30 responses and it was very helpful.

The questionnaires were completely anonymous but some people actually put their name to them.

This was never meant to be a stunt, it was to try and find out how I could improve the Show and get more people to attend.

I believe it drew myself closer to the singers because they saw it as “Kev Cares”

A survey wouldn’t be any good at a Venue that had passing trade or backpackers Like Bondi, Rovics gig or The Shark Hotel, but I can totally recommend a survey for any other Venue.

Yes I also know that some Hosts will be thinking “why, I have heaps of people turning up every week so I must be doing a great job”....but hey, it’s all about knowing your strengths and weaknesses and building on your strengths and your relationships with your customers.
