| From the Where2sing.com forum: The Comments and Forums are 'threaded' by time. That's the most easily understood threading system because it mirrors real life.
I've thought about giving people the ability to 'quote' part of an old post, but they already do that - so it's not needed. And when enough time has gone by, it becomes pointless to reply to old Comments or old Posts without raising the topic again for re-discussion - again, this already happens when required.
As for emails, they're so 'hit and miss' these days with spam boxes, spam settings, spam filters and mailserver unreliabilities, that I think it's best to wait for the person to come back to the site. If they're not interested enough to come back, then they probably wouldn't want the email anyway. Or those items could be embedded in a person's News Email.
However, if someone's back on the site but presently missing something they should see, I could put an alert onto the main page in the same way that people see what posts are unread in each forum.
Any Posts or Comments I remove are already placemarked with the reason. However, I don't remove unless the reason is fact - for example with shills or posting email/web addresses.
Which takes us back to whether there really is an alternative to letting all Comments and Posts stay.
And that leaves the question of what to do about hosts who get upset with the feedback?
