| From the Where2sing.com forum: I think comps can work if they are run properly. Small weekly prizes throughout the year eg a meal voucher or couple of free drinks or a promotional cap or T-shirt or such and every so often the host or whoever ( maybe secret ballet by audience ) picks a top ten or so to 'sing off' for a more substantial but still small prize pool. The host knows who the regulars are and small prizes make it less attractive for 'professional' singers to get involved. The limited number of Sydney and NSW venues participating in KWC suggests something is wrong there, but again more competitive comps like this could work if run properly. The more serious singers do need some sort of outlet like this. I do agree though that comps like KWC do take the fun out of it for the run of the mill karaoke singer and fun is what its meant to be about!
