Mike if you want some of the many many reasons this show & comp were the worst I've ever seen they include;

- starting almost 90 minutes after the advertised starting time
- allowing at least one finalist who didn't meet the minimum attendance requirement to compete
- the hosts not knowing the sponsors name, how many prizes they had to give out, or even where the state final was being held
- the judges lecturing the contestants on song choice, then giving a finalist spot to My Way! And for the record 98% of the audience either walked out during his performance or went to the bar as it was so cringeworthy but somehow the judges failed to take that into consideration. They also ignred the other male contestant (whom I have never met) getting standing ovations in both rounds yet he missed out on a top 3 spot somehow!
- The hosts changing the singing order in round 2 without telling the contestants!
- The host and wife walking over to the judging table and talking to the judges during some of the performances.
- The judges going to the bathroom and missing out on an entire song, then when the judge returned to his table the hosts took a 15 minute toilet break.
- song books which were so sticky I couldn't pry the pages apart.
- only having 500 songs in the book but having the rest on their computer and somehow the audience had to use their pshycic powers to know the songs were there.
- not testing your equipment BEFORE the comp started (late as per point # 1). We had to laugh as everyone in the audience could see the player wasn't plugged in and it took the hosts about 15 mins to figure out what everyone else could see.
and much much more.
So Mike in short and with all due respect, I 'did not enjoy your below post nor do I agree with any part of it' either. If a host runs a comp, then they should have some professional standard involved, this show didn't.

This was by far the worst karaoke show I've ever seen, I won't apologize for my opinion.

I could list at least another 15-20 points of things wrong with this show without ever turning to the awful way they ran the comp.
As for a venue telling me how to run my show or wanting to run a comp to attract more people, I've never had that problem as my shows have always been a major sucess without gimicks or comps. I've never limited my market by not having a comp, I just don't see the need to upset my regular supporters by offering prizes that comp chasers would take.
I have always said if I had to run a comp, I could already tell you who would win. The only difference between my rigged comps and others would be that I would be honest and upfront about it.

I currently run gigs in Sydney and Melbourne but I'm taking a step back from the Sydney gigs as I want a break from the Sydney scene, having also been an internationally renown DJ for the past 10 years as well as doing the karaoke gigs, so there's no point saying where I work.

From next week onwards I'll just be dropping into Sydney shows just for fun.
