| From the Where2sing.com forum: It seems to me that venues running comps to attract a crowd is a bit like a business that runs a 'loss leader' promotion to build its business. Both will swell numbers, but cost money and make a substantial loss to do it, and neither is likely to build a sustainable business on the basis of this. In both cases the result is 'buying customers', and as soon as the loss leader or the competition goes, so do those customers.
But, taken that the venue will run a comp, how many people is it going to attract each week, over how many weeks, and how is it going to continue bringing these people back after the comp has finished - bearing in mind that they have been attracted to the comp, and the comp and its prize money is unsustainable?
