True . When I started out at labor park I purchase new attractive product at whole . Electric guitars, cameras ,and bulk items like 500 little radios and other product. Excess product was resold at market and a tidy profit was made. The profit helped me purchase even better gear and provide even better prizes to give away. Stacks was given away and everyone was happy including me as I came out in front overall . I remember back then a regulator w2s said ' your show must no be Ny good if you need to give away prizes' I explained to him that I have 500 of these little suckers to give away.
On mothers day at a venue I gave every female at the venue a plastic bag sealer . Valued at 9.95 rr I gave away around 100. The night at the band club. Again a product I purchased 500 units at .50 each and sold most at market for 5.00 each. It was my early trading that funded my karaoke business so I could buy 2 x Bose units and stacks of music.
I started with nothing so had nothing to lose.
I agree little prizes and give aways are always good to help to build a new show. But if the show is not exciting or fun then your singer will not return. Cash prizes about a few hundred do attract the comp chasers And let's face it even if your show is great they will not return as they will be off to the next comp . If they did not win they take there tears to the next one and discredit yours along the way.
You have all seen me run the kwc and may remember I wasucky to have the last two ozi winners.
Both winners did not come to our venue before the comp and don't now.
I have my view on the kwc and it would serve no advantage to the aust kwc for me to explain it here.
Not to say I would not run it again as I never say never but my venues and singers come first.
In anycase I like to find something to talk About when promoting a venue .

David I enjoyed your ideas and may steal a few.
I feel the best prize you can give your singer is attention, care, and support , no matter who they are.
You can hide behide your desk or great them at the door with a big welcoming hung.
Everyone loves a hug and I give them to everyone.
People enjoy a warm greeting . Just ask Swanny , even big fury old biker looking dudes get a hug. Lol
After that point of sharing the love nothing else matters as much .
Is my sound perfect, song books perfect, Not really there's always room for improvement.
Do I treat people with respect, not judge, and entertain them . Yes I do .
I don't know if what I do in business is right or wrong , I only know it somewhat works for me.
If a wanted to know what I'm doing wrong I would come here to w2s and there's plenty of people that will tell me I'm wrong here. Lol
At my shows my singers tell me I am doing ok. But it's the singers that support my shows that make my day.
I have a good amount of work and give opportunity to host that have a caring sharing personality that can entertain. They dont have to be able to sing but they do need to be able to entertain and give of themselves to the customer.
I hope our host are your prize.
