Karaoke Rooms are an “Asian-Thing”, period - With 99.99% of its revelers being of Asian ethnicity.
Public Pub & Club Karaoke on the other hand is a Westernised fad, with its 97.50% Non- Asian patrons (my numbers ….)
It’s very simply a “Culture-Thing” too …
Let me contrast the “cultural differences” between Asian Vs Non-Asian Karaoke-Goers (generalised of course, and based on my own life’s experiences and observations):
Asians:
- Large but close-knit family and social groups wanting to party together.
- Generally “shy” and “introverted” in nature.
- Expect to PAY for EVERYTHING, and happily do so!
- A night-out means a night-out, no scrimping, no money-pinching.
- Choice of drinks : the more expensive, the better : mainly spirits for the males and highly priced cocktails for the females.
- Accordingly, Private Karaoke Rooms cater for all these cultural traits.
Non-Asians:
- The karaoke junkie is a “lonewolf”, but do gather as a pack when meeting up with other lonewolves at their favourite venues.
- Generally “not shy” and a bit “extroverted” and maybe a tad “boisterous” after a few drinks (for those who actually buy drinks).
- Demand FREE karaoke entertainment with the best sound system, the best and fairest rotation and the best song choices.
- Lots of Serial-Water-Drinkers amongst them; and for the those who do spend, a good proportion is mindful of every single dollar spent on a night-out.
- Thus Pub and Club Karaoke is their haunt ….
