From the Where2sing.com forum:

Years ago we tried Kamikaze a couple of times and we were careful with the song choice that we gave our victim's after calling for volunteers. We've tried dance breaks to apease the non-singers and keep them interested and that seems to work for a while in a five hour show in fact we were always prompted by the audience for the dance break. When we first started going to Karaoke, the guy we eventually took over from at St Marys RSL ran, what he called a Karaoke Caberet show. He would sing for twenty minutes or so then go around the room and take punter's names for Karaoke, he would limit the amount of names he took. After the first round he'd have a half an hour dance break where he and his operator (Gary from Rising Star) would sing upbeat dance songs and then back into the second round. This worked very well in the 'Day', I don't know if it would work now, I'm talking 20 odd years ago.
