From the Where2sing.com forum:

Certainly not advocating hosts turn a blind eye and if it turns out this is what this host did, then that's obviously an issue. In my view, anyone who takes a microphone must be invited, either by myself or by the singer and its not appropriate that people take it upon themselves to muscle in on a song when not invited. Having said that, I've seen time and time again that happen and the singer gives the mic over or passively allows the mic to be taken off them. Where possible I try and ascertain whether they are giving permission but more often than not the body language tells me that there is no issue. If nothing is said to me, as far as I'm concerned, permission has been granted and its not my place to intervene.

About 6 months ago this happened and I heard later that night that singer was unhappy about having had their song stolen. I go up to them and ask them if everything was ok with their song, they reply no problem. Didn't stop them continuing to grumble for the rest of the night. I'm sorry, but I don't see how the host is at fault in that situation.
