From the Where2sing.com forum:

Oh yes David countless times , infact for those that wish to put the hard yards in and are ready to learn , I've offered much practical advice and demonstrations and indeed if any one remembers around a year or so i detailed the correct way to hold and use a Mic (cabaret style ) on W2S .
For anyone wishing to use a Mic better and in turn improve there singing , i shall again write here

1...Grab a Mic , if you have one handy grab a pen
2..Firstly insure that upper inner arm ( from elbow to shoulder) is firmly connected to the side of your body , this never comes away from your body
3..then you lift your hand up to your mouth (making sure your upper arm is still wedged against your body )....By doing this you will notice that how ever you turn body the Mic will automatically follow , you can spin around and the Mic will stay with the mouth
4.. make sure the is Mic aprox 1 inch from the lips and the ''Top side of Mic just touching the bottom of your nose
5.. when taking high notes or sustained notes your bring down the Mic to where you think the distance is needed , you will notice if you are doing this correctly its sort of in a 1/4 circle action ,( what i mean by that is if you think of a circle the action you are doing with the Mic resemble a 1/4 of a circle) , so this action is where practice comes so you know what distances and when you need to pull down the Mic

I hope this helps as it is pretty hard to explain it in writing but as long as you remember to keep that Mic upper arm firmly against your body this will get your Mic control improved out of sight .
