I wonder whether the desire to be in business, any business, rode above any knowledge of how to do so profitably? There's a fair amount of money available in karaoke, but it's easy - as with any business - to lose it all on expenses and come away with very little. Karaoke is certainly just another business, all the same business rules applying, and all the same hazards available to trip up the inexperienced. I think that's why the independent host, with just the number of venues he can personally host, does fine, but expanding that business into employing hosts sees actions such as the use of illegally copied discs as a device to keep everything profitable.
