| From the Where2sing.com forum: Reading something on a forum is very different to actually practising something face-to-face with someone there to teach you proper technique. Can you imagine if doctors only read information and then went to surgery straight away without any such practice!!
There are things that can be learnt on a forum however David, such as proper grammar hehehee. 'expect teachers to know more than US (we), yet many DO NOT (does not)' and 'whether karaoke WAS (were) different from singing'
I think karaoke and singing are the same - drama is just as important in singing as it is in karaoke. Karaoke is just that you have the words in front of you and a backing track rather than a band or backing track and no words. You still have to personalise a song and dramatise it to get the message across. I find no real difference at all. Karaoke is just considered more of a pastime that anyone can get up and do. But when you think of it, singing is exactly the same ... anyone can get up and sing ... karaoke has just been given the marketing arm to it to say that it is ok that you don't sound great, just get up anyway. However karaoke also still encompasses those that can sing really well as well. So no real difference as far as i can see
