Aussie – In The Summertime (Thirsty Merc). It’s a mystery to me why a popular summer anthem is not on anyone’s songbook/database yet.
International – You gotta have some soul/R&B/smooth jazz stuff to show your versatility so my choice is either Grover Washington’s ‘Just The Two Of Us’ or Ray Parker Jr’s ‘A Woman Needs Love’
Ballad – Just Once (James Ingram). This is a bit of a karaoke anthem where I originally came from & despite its notoriety in ‘My Way’ level I still love singing it from time to time. One song where I can completely forget about the crowd & drift away into sweet oblivion.
Rock/Pop – I Wonder Why (Curtis Stigers). Song that has plenty of emotions in it that will surely captivate judges & audience alike. Gotta learn the damn song first though.
Alternative/Retro – ‘Digging Your Scene’ (Blow Monkeys). If you check it out on Youtube, that’s the kind of performance I wanted to emulate at karaoke lol
