In Asia, it’s a craze which has created a global business. There are stores in every part of South Korea, Japan, the Philippines and other countries and in Australia. Now Wellington is gearing up and Emily and Nerida are getting in the groove saying it should be a great night.
Karaoke will be the star attraction at the Soldiers Memorial Club which on a Friday night which is usually active with a meat raffles, badge draws and also poker.
Secretary manager David French, known to be a rocker in his old days, believes a big crowd will be at the club and with cash prizes on offer, he’s ready but whether he’ll be starring on the dance floor and the singing is not known yet.
“I will probably leave that to the entrants who will have a fantastic time, and don’t worry you don’t have to be good at it, it’s about the fun. There are cash prizes to win and also dancing after it,” Mr French said.
The club scene no doubt has done it tough over time but the Bowling Club is turning around a few slim years with the help of its Sunday melodies, and also other sports clubs and events like karaoke are certain to bring a big crowd tonight.
There are rumours that Cr Shirley Drysdale - also the club’s vice-president has some ability on the microphone and also fellow board member Ian Wicks can sing. All the secrets will be revealed tonight when they go to the Max.
