| From the Where2sing.com forum: Last night's elimination episode of X Factor should be taken note of anyone just getting into the karaoke comp scene. For those that missed it (or don't care for it), the two singers with the least amount of votes had to sing a song of their own choice and then one of them got voted off by the judges. The two singers, while not the weakest in the comp in my opinion, gave the some of the weakest performances on Monday night (where they sang a song given to them by their judge-mentor). The song they sang to avoid being sent home was their own choice. The thing that struck me most was the girl with the more interesting and versatile voice got sent home, simply because of song choice. The other girl's choice was electric and screamed out that she was staying put whereas the performance from the girl that went home was quite timid in comparison. I put it almost squarely because of song choice, the song she chose simply didn't let her spread her wings.
Doesn't matter how great a singer you are, the song you sing in a comp has to be a 'comp song', not simply a song you sing well.
