| From the Where2sing.com forum: First time I was invited to get up and sing with 'the band' I tried to decline saying I was worried that I would forget the words part way through and was shocked when a band member pointed to their laptop with the words displayed. I guess if your actually playing an instrument - properly, not just a note or chord now and then - with the words just there to remind you, then its more than just karaoke. You have to be a good enough performer for people to want to listen to you all night too, which rules out many of us. Personally I would love to 'hold the floor' all night and have experienced the odd drunken crowd that would probably let me do it, I have even been lucky enough to be invited to do a gig at parties etc for people I had never met before based on them seeing me perform at a karaoke gig - but I wouldnt pretend to be a professional singer/entertainer. A band for me would always consist of at least three members, one of which being an actual drummer, not a drum machine
