From the Where2sing.com forum:

Hosts Singing:
(a) To me, hosts who sing at the start / end of each and every rotation has a different idea to me about the purpose of a karaoke-show.
(b) To me, a karaoke-show is for the punters, and is not the host's private cabaret show, it is not a gig to showcase the host's singing (there are other formatted shows for that).
(c) I agree with LB that every song a host sings = one less song for the punters.
(d) Yes, they are 'shy' people at karaoke-shows, but there's also always at least one or a bunch of regulars at every show too. To me, it's a nice gesture to 'reward' one's regulars (on a rotational basis) with the 'honour' of the 1st song - that also gives the chance for the host to jump off the 'stage' and have a good listen at crowd-level.
