From the Where2sing.com forum:

Here's an exaggerated example of uninformed comments treated as fact: If you ask most people how the carbon tax is going to run, they more often than not will recite what the media has told them; newspapers, blogs, Alan Jones and even heaven forbid YouTube videos. All of these different sources will combine to create each persons individual opinions on what is happening in politics. Those opinions will of course come to the fore come election time.

Thing is, there is no real legal obligation for the media (traditional and non-traditional) to accurately report the situation. If there was, Media Watch would have nothing to do. Yet, we are being asked to make decisions on the course of the nation on what are often misleading statements and outright lies. People lose their jobs, and not just politicians and it shouldn't be that way.

Getting back to where2sing and reducing the scale of the argument, lies and halved truths can and do hurt shows. The gig comments section is there to help singers work out if they would be a fit for that particular venue. It serves a necessary function, but is the way it tries to achieve its goals the right way? What if every comment on a gig was from someone who had never been there and was just trying to gain access to the database? If the gig comments only serve its function if they help to accurately determine if a singer should go to a particular show, then can it really be claimed that every gig comment is of equal usefulness? Can it be claimed that every gig comment should even be there? First, decide if any and all comments are valid and have a place. If the answer is no, then there's something that needs to be done about it.
