I would have thought anything more than 5 or so would be sufficient to keep the place entertained, with enough time between singers to allow each one a rest and time to find another song. Certainly by 10 I'd think the host rarely has a reason to be singing - I say 'rarely' because I can see situations where a host might have a place singing:
1. Venue management requires it (so then why did they want karaoke, and not a singing act?)
2. Unending dreadful singing that is not entertaining, and needs some counterbalance or someone to show them the way
3. The host is genuinely entertaining, and the singers show their continued appreciation of his singing
4. Audience has requested songs that the singers are unable/unwilling to do, and the vote is with keeping the audience happy.
