Madder Lake, Chain, Spectrum, Aztecs, Zoot, Meteors, Master Apprentices, Blackfeather, Hush, Daddy Cool, Sherbert, LRB ....
And the list goes on ....
But I can't name any Aussie band from the 1980s on .... I am sure there are many as impressive a line-up as those mentioned ... and I guess a lot many more are being promoted independently .... I don't go in search of them, and they probably play a different genre of music that I don't listen to, hence I know of none!
'RADIO' per se is so specialised these days - music of every era and of every genre is being pumped out 24/7 by literally hundreds of stations a music lover can tune to - unlike the old days when there are but a handful of stations with specific timeslots for 'Top of the Pops' type shows to really hone in on the new music being released. Those days we have NO CHOICE but listen to what is being played and local talent can therefore be easily promoted. Now we have choices, way too many choices - e.g. I only tune in to stations that only play hits of years gone by, so I, and those like me are oblivious to the new acts coming through, nor do we care .... in fact, I can't remember when I last bought some 'new' music (apart from standing-orders for new karaoke discs).
On the whole, industry is so fragmented. We are a 'user-choice' world now, and for music that means we choose what we want to listen to or watch, as we flick and change stations and channels endlessly ... with social networking and the likes of youtube, a new clip can be promoted and viewed by 10-20 million people the world over within a matter of days!
PS: Unfortunately for every one of us who are not into new acts like LMFAO, there is another 10,000 worldwide who think so otherwise, making them instant millionaires! Haha!
