| From the Where2sing.com forum: I think there was a big shift in the professionalism of karaoke setups about ten years ago when we saw the old established (multi-rig) operators, such as All-About in Sydney and Oz Karaoke in Brisbane, struggling to compete with the new breed of host. These new hosts were sometimes termed 'amateurs', then later 'enthusiast hosts' as it became apparent that their equipment was far in excess of what the market had hitherto expected - and which was standard for the aforementioned operators fielding employed hosts with simple equipment, and charging fairly how rates.
It might have been expected that the old established hosts would have benefited from their cost advantage over the new breed of enthusiast hosts, but it seemed that singers responded to the better equipment, and we saw those old companies changed, sold, whatever. A new business model arrived.
But has the enthusiast host brought a different problem - one of being less business minded, and - after arriving with far better equipment - sitting in the same position rather than advancing? There are some notable exceptions to that, particularly Rovics and EE, but I wonder about many of the rest?
