From the Where2sing.com forum:

Personally I like to keep the Foldback Mix the same as FOH...IMO there is a fine balance between On Stage sound and FOH volume....that balance and volume can often vary between singers...however generally the majority of singers like the experience of hearing themselves above (Yet intertwined) the music and and above FOH...and indeed its that one single feature that can often make or break any karaoke show and is ..IMO... what encourages the better singer to come back for more time and time again.

Having your speakers 'positioned' in such a way so as not to need a foldback is rare indeed in the majority of venues and is a recipe for a massive feedback loop (if you play at decent volume that is)..it is again my opinion that hosts that insist that a foldback is not needed is often just lazy...and indeed the 'correct' place for FOH speakers is in front of the singer...not behind with the foldback perpendicular to the singer where possible..and because Karaoke hosts do not have the luxury of mixing FOH therefore the Foldback mix should be the same as FOH with the only variance being volume...but also be clearly audible to the operator....I am often befuddled as to how any host can expect to mix reasonable sound with a foldback placed so it is facing away from them... and with the their mixing desk place behind FOH ?...maybe super hearing?

MB/LB sorry guys ...but any half decent singer that reckons he doesn't need foldback ...either cant sing at all ..or is not interested in getting the best out of his performance...and again I reiterate that this is in (not all ) situations...just my opinion..:-)
